174 PROSPECT PLACE,  BROOKLYN, NY
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Fortune Society is a non-profit organization that supports successful reentry to society from incarceration and promotes alternatives from prison. Therefore,  Due to the housing crisis in New York, the Fortune Society wants to open this new residence to accommodate more men who drastically need their help. Understanding that these men are works in progress, our design will conform to their needs as they continue to adjust to society.
GOAL: Design a group home for displaced and homeless men who are reentering society after serving sentences in the United States correctional system, ages 18 - 65.
CONCEPT: The Fortune Society is a home that generates a unique experience for these formal inmates with the use of functional and intentional design to address their structural needs. While there is an emphasis on the structure of orthogonally shaped spaces, there is freedom within the applied materials, much similar to how the men will experience their lives beyond this program. Lastly, we hope to approach the design with a zen-like ambiance with minimal amounts of furniture and accessories to avoid overstimulating and triggering the residents.
